Richmond, Virginia achieved a peak magnitude of approximately 85.6% during the recent solar eclipse, and many Capital Square team members gathered on the back patio of our headquarters for the occasion, protective eyewear in place as the moon\u2019s shadow slid in front of the mid-day sun.<\/p>\n\n

After the stunning event, one of our team members had an idea in the spirit of our \u201cCapital Square Cares\u201d initiatives, specifically related to our dedication to children. Rather than disposing of our team\u2019s glasses, the Capital Square team is collecting them and giving them to Eclipse Glasses USA<\/a>, who will send this gently used eyewear to children in Latin America for their viewing of the 2024 annular eclipse.<\/p>\n\n

The 2024 annular eclipse will occur on October 2, 2024, and will be visible in parts of South America, as well as from the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.<\/p>\n\n

Because Capital Square is committed to \u201cBuilding the Future,\u201d we are committed to philanthropic focuses that care for our youth: before birth with the March of Dimes, in the early years with Little Hands Virginia, as health needs arise with Children\u2019s Hospital of Richmond and around the world with the World Pediatrics. Team member passions and ideas frequently lead to additional causes, and our donation of these eclipse glasses is one more such example. We\u2019re proud to help children safely view such a spectacular natural event. The brilliance of our youth can become even brighter when inspired.<\/p>\n\n

In addition to our recent food drive for Feed More<\/a> \u2013 when the Capital Square team donated 359 pounds of food to Central Virginia\u2019s core hunger relief organization to ensure fewer children went hungry during their spring breaks in March \u2013 our 2024 has already been tremendously impactful.<\/p>\n\n

Efforts like these are consistent in our calendar for a reason. They are one more way we\u2019re rallying our team in pursuit of being the change needed in the communities where we work, live, build and invest. They are one more way we\u2019re proud to build something bigger than ourselves.<\/p>\n\n
